We have partnered with Great West Life for Life Insurance, Short Term and Long Term Disability coverage.

Definition of Disability: During the Short Term benefit period and the first two years of the Long Term benefit period a member is considered to be disabled if an injury or illness prevents them from performing the duties of his/her own occupation. After the first two years of the Long Term benefit period a member is considered to be disabled if an injury or illness prevents him/her from performing the duties of any occupation and from being gainfully employed.

Gainful employment: Work that a person has the minimum qualifications to perform, is medically able to perform and provides an income of at least 50% of pre-disability monthly earnings. The employment must exist in the province or territory where the member worked when disabled or currently lives.

Short Term: Provides income replacement benefits to eligible members for a maximum of 52 weeks. The benefit is based on earnings from the year prior to the benefit year. The maximum benefit is $1000 per week. A claimant must qualify medically to receive a benefit.

Long Term: After 52 weeks, this benefit will provide income replacement benefits to eligible members to age 65. The benefit is based on earnings from the year prior to the benefit year. The maximum benefit is $5000 per month. A claimant must qualify medically to receive a benefit.

Claims: Please ensure that notification of claim is submitted within 10 days of onset of injury or illness. Great -West Life is not liable for claims submitted after 90 days of onset of injury or illness. (Find claim forms below or on the forms page.)
